Microbiological Testing

Microbiological contamination testing is required for California Compliance to ensure cannabis products are free of bacteria, yeast, mold, and other toxins.

Our microbiological team can rapidly screen for microorganisms potentially found in cannabis products through qPCR and genomic screening. All methods are compatible with guidelines set forth in the FDA Bacteriological Assessment Manual.

We test for the following species:

Shiga-toxin producing E. Coli (STEC)

STECs are a type of disease-causing bacteria that produces shiga toxin. The most common of these STECs is the O157:H7 serovar which can produce serious gastrointestinal illness.

Salmonella spp

Salmonella is a group of gram-negative, rod shaped bacteria that cause typhoid fever, gastroenteritis, and other illnesses.

Aspergillus spp.

Aspergillus spp.

Aspergillus is a type of mold that can cause severe respiratory infection, especially in those with compromised immune systems. The State of California chosen to test for four different pathogenic species of Aspergillus that are known to be found in cannabis.
